Following a rigorous three-stage evaluation process—initial, secondary, and final rounds—the results of the 2023 3rd Taiwan Traceable Agricultural Products (TAP) Tea Classification and Grading (TAGs) competition were officially announced on October 24.

This year’s evaluation focused on “Light-Roasted Ball-Shaped Oolong”, a category with high market popularity. The competition gathered unique craftsmanship from top tea makers across the region, showcasing a brilliant array of skills. The entries displayed smooth textures and distinct varietal characteristics, such as:

• Light-Roasted Ball-Shaped Oolong: Elegant floral notes of orchid and gardenia.

• TEA No. 12 (Jinxuan): Rich, creamy milky aroma.

• TEA No. 22 (Qinyu): Unique sweetness of longan flower and maple syrup.

GoodYoung stood out among numerous entries to receive the “Select Award” (精選獎). The company was honored at a grand ceremony on November 17 at the 2023 Taiwan International Tea Expo (Nangang Exhibition Center), engaging in deep exchanges with representatives from industry, government, and academia to contribute to the steady elevation of Taiwan’s tea industry.

Building Trust Through Traceability (TAGs)

To promote domestic, safe, and high-quality traceable tea, the Tea and Beverage Cane Crop Improvement and Extension Station (TRES) of the Ministry of Agriculture has been actively implementing the Taiwan Tea Classification and Grading System (TAGs). By establishing a traceability system, the initiative protects consumers’ right to know and secures producers’ income, bridging the gap between the public and high-quality tea.

A total of 76 entries were accepted for this TAGs evaluation. Every product followed Taiwan Good Agricultural Practices (TGAP), ensuring transparent and traceable production records to eliminate consumer concerns regarding imported “blended” teas.

Expert Jury and Digital Innovation

The jury consisted of experts from industry, government, and academia, including Chiu Chui-feng (Deputy Director of TRES), Liu Kuang-wei (a master with decades of tea-making and sensory experience), and Hsiao Kuo-chung (Lecturer at National Taitung Specialized College).

In addition to using the latest TAGs digital platform for scoring and flavor profiling, every winning tea box features a unique anti-counterfeit serial number. Consumers can verify the tea’s authenticity online using this limited-edition number, significantly enhancing the professionalism and reliability of domestic tea.
